Women are still fighting for the right to control our bodies. The decision to have children(or not) is not between women and their partners. It is overseen and sometimes made for us by the government. On the other hand, there is societal and familial pressure to have children regardless of our plans or wishes. I am feeling this from my in-laws so I started making work surrounding the fight for women's reproductive health and rights. Using the female anatomy as a basis for my work brings the point home.
As a child, my mother taught me many fiber processes and my stepfather taught me carpentry. This environment of creating brought me to art school and the discovery of metal-working. The combination of metal and fiber creates a juxtaposition that embodies the struggle for women's rights.
